ok. thanks. I think this architecture will require me to use the RAID controller which is limited to 8 SAS/SAtaS. So I really need to find, hopefully, the simplest way to expand a single SAS/SATA to 6 drives. I have 6 x 6 drives, 1 set per SAS/SATA 3G.

How about a connector that would connect a 3G SAS or SATA interface from a card to a backplane. Is there a mfr who makes one that is rated for large number of connect remove cycles? Thanks for the help!.

could be. Smart Modular Technologies makes a EMLC with 30,000 write cycles. (SLC is 100,000). Cheap like MLC.

its a special application, cost is not an issue for these. Any idea who might make a 256GB SLC?

SAS states a throughput of 3 (or 6Gbps). So if an expander is used, ultimately all the drives on that layer are bottlenecked by the single 3Gbps SAS interface to the host controller? I attempted to attach a simple block diagram to help illustrate. thanks for any insight
