It Professional's role in preventing piracy

I should have kept my list going. Manicures/pedicures, knock-off watches, little ornaments, jade of various types, and cheap (cheap) clothing. The weird thing is you can be being assaulted in the street ("sir, sir, you come for pedicure and massage!") and then when you say no, they say "DVD...

It Professional's role in preventing piracy

Yes, I just went across the border from HK to Shenzen and people literally come up to you in the street and offer to sell you DVD movies and pirated software (PC, Xbox, PS2...). Oh, and to sell you manicures/pedicures, knock-off watches, The weird thing is what is on offer. I mean, games I can...

I don't care what they call the outlines, I just want them so I can do actual maps of Asia. These are respectively sovereign states, recognised by the UN, why would Microsoft express an opinion on their legitimacy or otherwise? Given there are more than 45 million Intenet users in China, that...

    Matrix reloaded?

Obviously since The Oracle died during the filming of Reloaded without doing any scenes for Revolutions, they will have to do some plot adjustments. Carrie Anne was pretty far advanced in her pregnancy by the end of the filming so I suspect less and less leather outfits in Revolutions.

    Matrix reloaded?

Went to see it on Friday. I was disappointed by the first 20mins or so, but the rest of the movie was even more of a rollercoaster ride than the first one - very exciting. Overall not as good as the first but still pretty good.

    Kaboom! (the suicide bombing game)

5 dead and 3 injured is my best too. As far as I can tell there's a fair bit of luck involved depending on how the pedestrians start out. Sometimes there's a nice cluster of women and children you can shadow until there's enough bystanders to make it worthwhile.

    Anybody ever been broken into?

Two break-ins, both while I was home. The first was during the day, the person opened the kitchen window and took some cash, a mobile phone and a laptop. First thing I heard was the back gate slamming. The second was about 5am on a Sunday morning. I woke to the sound of a wooden-sounding...

    Tape Backup Solutions

I think you'll find it's impossible to back up Exchange's files while it's running, unless things have changed in 2000. So unless you want to stop the Exchange service while you back it up - and given that the data is large this means stopping the service for potentially several hours, not a...

    Dual NICs for redundancy, howto?

I don't know of any ISA NICs that support failover natively through their drivers under Unix. You're better off going through the OS. You're using Linux so yu have a number of options - the code from Oracle at http://otn.oracle.com/tech/linux/open_source.html is probably a good start, or just...

The Morgan Poll is an anomaly. All the other polls I have seen locally have all had around 70-30 disapproval of Australia's policy towards Iraq. I have no idea how you get to that conclusion, but then I don't agree with your theory that terrorism has changed in any fundamental way. The goals of terrorism are no more or less realistic than they were before. And if terrorism is no longer tied to a country as you say, how does attacking...

But the US supports Israeli state terrorism. The US helped train Osama bin Laden. The US used to support Hussein, even in the full knowledge that he was terrorising the Kurds. The US supported Russia when they brutally crushed Chechnya, a nation looking for self-determinism. The US deposed a...

    Dual Port Server NIC

Yeah I assumed they weren't running Win2K advanced or datacentre.
  40. J

    Dual Port Server NIC

My point was that the switch doesn't need to be smart. However, the drivers for the NICs do need to support teaming, or you're stuffed. I don't know if NICs from different manufacturers, even they individually do support teaming, will work together. When teaming is successfully turned on, you...

  42. J

    Dual Port Server NIC

Also I repeat my point that if you're bonding together ethernet cards to increase the bandwidth out of your server (the usual requirement, after all) then the switch does not need to be intelligent to support this.
  43. J

    Dual Port Server NIC

Not unless you want switch-assisted teaming, ie. you want to double the pipe to the box in both directions. If you just want to double the output of the server into your network through NIC teaming then it shouldn't care what sort of switch you use...

What is a good Basic Video Card

Thanks. Merc, "Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes" Not necessarily - perhaps the discussion that followed was more of interest than the original question, and thus it wasn't answered. :) Thanks Coug. Is there much difference in the video encoding capabilities of the various AIWs?

What is a good Basic Video Card

Not to be annoying here, but what, what, what is the difference between all the different ATI models?! Even the sites I go to for their love of feature tables (Anand, Tom) don't really seem to be clear on it. Plus it's hard to map it back into what I'm familiar with (ie Nvidia card speeds).

What is a good Basic Video Card

Thanks all. What does "Pro" add to a standard 9100 card, just clock speed or also memory path bandwidth? What's the difference between a 9000 and a 9100? The Sapphire 9100 Pro 64MB here is $315, a bit expensive. I haven't seen a Sapphire non-Pro yet. The ATI 9000 64M is $139. The ATI 9000 Pro...
