16-core desktop?

I need to find a reason to play with one of these.

No louder than a desktop, the noise output of the Typhoon PSC is no more than 45dB.

Considering I aim for 18dB on my desktops, this made me laugh.

Other than DivX-ing movies really quickly, or VMWare-ing an enterprise in a suitcase, what could I do to justify the price of one of these?

You could always take up scientific computing as a hobby. Never know when you'll need to simulate air currents in a hurricane or all the molecules in a nuclear explosion.
