Nah, 500GB is almost too small heading towards 2007. Where are the 960GB drives then, so the 750s will be more reasonable. There are piles of old 250GB drives to replace.

750s are reasonable, in a $/GB kind of way. Not that much of a premium over the 500s.

Why not? A black heatsink provides a bit better radiant heat transfer to the surrounding environment, assuming that the heatsink is not absorbing radiation, e.g., in the sun.
