Had a question, I am looking into updating my quickbooks software to the 2007 version. I found a guy on EBAY with good ratings selling an academic priced Quick books pro 2007. The description claims only the price is different and that the academic priced version is the same at the retail version. He actually is local to me according to his listing as he puts Hartford CT. Any reason I should worry about an academic priced piece of software?

I am omnipresent
I buy academic copies of Office when I have to buy single copies. The lazy stoners who work at staples never ask for credentials anyway.

When my son was in college we bought everything at the 'student' prices. I never found any of the software to be different than the retail copies.

MS reduced their proof requirements for academic software a few years back in Australia so you no longer required proof to get the academic price (I'm guessing no one was checking anyway or something). I don't know about Quicken but I get the impression that on the whole it's more trouble than it's worth trying to enforce the rules because it's just too easy to fake and too hard to ensure that there isn't any such educational institution or whatever.

In any case even before that we used to occasionally suggest that now might be a good time to enrol in a cooking course if a customer needed some expensive software and couldn't get an OEM copy or something.

When I was taking a massage class at a local JC (I am a certified massage therapist, BTW); I got all kinds of educational software. Photoshop and Maya were required for my classes ;)

I kept an old college ID, whip it out sometimes for stuff like that. Check the manufacturer, sometimes the student editions are stripped down offerings.
