I saw it coming and now it's done. Today, AMD's stocks closed at 24.85$, while Intel's finished at 24.01$. It is the first time since I follow the stock market that I see this. I'm not saying that it never happened before, but it's the first time I see it.

Of course, the fact that Intel's total market value is around 154 billion while AMD's is worth 8.8 billion is absolutely meanless...

I am omnipresent
AOL was a "bigger company" in terms of market cap than Time Warner, too. Remember those days?

Sad thing is, I own some shares of Intel and I still appreciate the irony.

I wonder how much Dell's exclusive arrangement with Intel affects AMD? Opteron and Athlon 64 are recognized as great products, so isn't it possible that this one deal is influencing the market out of all proportion? I'd speculate it could be as much as halving AMD's sales.

Which makes me wonder how much Dell is paying Intel for their CPUs. Couldn't you make the case that Intel should practically be paying Dell for the huge flow-on benefit? Microsoft set a precedent with the X-box, where they expected AMD to provide the CPUs at a loss - Intel was happy to step into the gap then.

Good news indeed. At least about the stock being up ~7% today. Of course, as Coug pointed out, actual numbers are pretty meaningless when you see the number of outstanding shares of each company. We own an equal number of AMD and INTC shares so it's all good to us. EMC has been doing well recently too thanks to Doug. Our real winners are EBAY and OTEX though. OTEX had a nice ~50% run before it was time to buy the new house so that helped. EBAY is just a freaking machine. Great business model. It should split again once it hovers around $120 for a while. T

he markets have been really accomodating over the past couple years....good for those of us who are lucky enough to be able to participate. :aok:

I guess this is why the Xbox 2 will be based on a PowerPC chip from IBM: you get what you pay for.
