Amanda

The other tech here planned to use it for our automated backup, but he ended up finding it too complicated to setup. We must do backups of servers with the following OS :

  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Suse
  • Slackware
  • Ubuntu
  • Centos 5.x
  • Solaris 10 circa ~2006
  • OpenIndiana

Please don't tell me we need to simplify. I've been yieling that since my first day here. For now, we must do with the mess that our network is.

no, sorry, I just use rsync for my stuff, but then again it's 1 desktop to an external HDD in my case.

Have you consider bacula as a replacement amanda? (I've played with bacula and it was pretty easy).

The only other option would be BackUp Exec, but IIRC they are ending Solaris support as of the next version...

The hamster (my co-worker : small, fat and only has short-term memory) told me that he was strongly considering bacula too.
