The reviews are out and so the latest weapons in the chip wars have been revealed. Prices are high, and a socket change is imminent, so I'll be waiting for Socket 939 and the 90nm Athlon 64's, PCI Express, R420, SATA-II etc...

Looks like that's going to be one big upgrade.

For the curious

Hmmm .... I think I'll go a diffrent route: the fastest available standard Athlon (32-bit), at a knock-down, drag-out price, and an extra X15 to keep things cooking along. Or possibly give up on fast computers altogether and get a digital SLR (which is affordable - almost) and a 500mm IS lens (which will cost more than my car did - and I ain't talking about a second-hand car!)

sigh

I don't think I can afford a fast computer anymore.

I am omnipresent
I'm content with a small army of budget machines. None of the above will be "budget" for a good long while.

I voted for FX and I'll have a JB Premium please.

I'll prob get something around Christmas time, unless Dell has an insane deal on a 1600sc server. Looks like AMD definitely have something that will double the performance of my duallie XP 1700.

Waiting for the dust to settle .... ie. prices, 939 arrival, processor upgradeability on mobos and other questions, etc.

Have no idea where that would fit in with the poll...guess JB gets my vote in the meantime.

I don't really understand the question. There are too many models to choose from and the reviews list a myriad of results for programs that I am clueless about. I need to buy something soon, though. The computer I have is essentially 18 months old and the processor is only 30% faster (the limit) than in 2001. Maybe I'll get the P4HTEE to maintain sanity for another six months.

And who is James Boags? Or should that be Boggs?

I'll give time to all this new technology to mature, then i'll decide. My system is perfect for me right now. I've been looking for a decent secondary system though :p .

Thanks Pradeep. I managed to get a few different moods, so I can post them at will.

Tannin: You may have a point. Other then baoging down when doing Photoshop, and posting pics to the net, this machine is just about all I need.

It's still WAY faster then most, thanks to the scsi X 15 raid 0, and, I have to make sure I can transfer that to a new machine.
