News.

IMO, they do this because the Chinese have annonced earlier that they also plan to send a yellow dot on our satellite, so the Americans will now need to do more than video-hoax in Nevada if they want their claim to be the first ever on the moon to hold up in the history books and not be dethrown by the Chinese in a few centuries when the obvious will become well-known (they've never been there).

So the good thing in all this is that we will probably witness for real the first moon landing.

George Bush is an actively evil and stupid person, but I don't think that makes the moon landings of the 1970s a hoax.

We've had 35ish years for something to come out from a person who might've been affliated with a hoax. We haven't. We *do* have moon rocks and dust and stuff, and I've actually met Neal Armstrong, who has certainl had every opportunity to slip up when discussing his role in history.

I'm happy if we're going back to the moon. Manned space missions are expensive but IMO necessary for answering "big picture" sorts of scientific questions.

isn't there a election next year and with his ratings he will need more than extra terrestrial help to pull that one of,besides with the deficit running at more than most of the world's combined income who is going to pay for it may be Iraq`s oil money.

Fair dinkum, who would do business with an investment analyst who is seriously off into na-na land like that?
na-na land? I don't deserve that kind of cheap shot. So far, I haven't offered my business analyst services to anyone here IIRC. I'm not a business analyst very much anyway. I'm just a part-time stock manager and that has nothing to do with this thread.

Mate, moon landing hoax conspiracy theories are na-na land products, pure and simple. I confess to a feeling of astonishment to see an otherwise intelligent man like you falling victim to such palpable nonsense. No offence was intended. After all, we have all sorts of other crazy and irrational beliefs here (dare I mention religion? no - better not) ....

WTF? To each his own, I guess. I'm just a bit shocked.

For what it's worth we all have irrational beliefs. The moon landing hoax theory is not quite as out there as some of the other ones some people believe in, and it's no more illogical than the Kennedy conspiracy theories.

I still believe the US government was involved in 9/11. A while back I even got rather involved with the topic on SR, at least until I got a few death threats over the phone. Whether that lends credence to my theory or not is an open question. However, my beliefs are no more illogical than Coug's believing the moon landings were a hoax. I also believe in most of the folklore surrounding the Roswell incident. I really have no way to prove any of my theories. In fact, if I did I would probably have been shot by now. I don't think any of this makes me any less credible in areas in which I do have factual knowledge. If it did, then we should instantly discredit anything at all that, say, a very religious person might say. I personally find believing in religion to be a bigger stretch than believing in the moon landing hoax.

BTW, if China going to the moon reinvigorates our space program I'm all for it. On the practical side if they get there first at least the American astronauts will be able to get some decent Chinese take-out. Much better than those meals-in-a-pack. :puke-r:

Bloody Hell! Please excuse my swearing but I think receiving death threats just for post your opinion(s) on the internet is just too much. I seldom login in the StorageReview forums but this makes more less inclined to visit the SR forums now. jtr1962 - hope you are not too fazed all this.

Cheers,
Edward

Hah! US Astronauts did land upon me. Unfortunately I was sleeping when Neil stepped out, because they waited so many hours after landing.

The most important unknown truth of the 20th century is this: The phone company killed JFK. ;)

Both Neil Armstrong and Gene Cernan (the last man on the moon), went to Purdue. Meeting the two of them, at the same time, is a memory I can genuinely treasure, even if all they did was shake my hand.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the US had far, far more knowledge of Sept. 11 than is commonly admitted - similar things are said about Roosevelt and Pearl Harbor. This isn't even necessarily a knock at Bush - the government agencies responsible for intelligence without a doubt make calculated decisions with that sort of information every day. It'd only take one analyst with a fanatical bent to report the wrong information to start the ball rolling in the wrong direction (proof? Look into the three British analysts who wrote the report that Blair/Bush cited as evidence of Iraqi WMDs).

Irrational beliefs? Religion? Anyone?

If it was anyone on SR(which I highly doubt) I haven't a clue how they could get my phone number. Truth is based on the person's tone of voice I didn't think it was some prankster. I took it seriously enough to gracefully end the topic. Maybe one day when I have more proof to back up my opinion I'll go public. In the meantime I'm not risking everything on what amounts mostly to a gut feeling and a couple of numbers not adding up. And yes, the US government and/or anyone else with a vested interest in the status quo does keep an eye out for anything they perceive as a threat. Either it was a prankster, or I was starting to get a bit too close to the truth, perhaps enough that it might lead someone with greater access to information than myself to more conclusive findings.

Here is the thread if you're curious. Draw your own conclusions. The quotes are a big mess from when the forums were converted, but it should still be possible to follow everything.

P.S. My intention is not to discourage anyone from visiting the SR forums. I still do regularly, and I still feel free to post my opinions there-except on the above topic which I'm not touching with a ten-foot pole on public forums any more. If you don't believe I received threats at all and I'm making this up that is of course your perogative as well. Frankly, I still have trouble believing 9/11 even happened, let alone all the strange things that occurred in its aftermath. But the big hole at Chambers Street tells me it really did.

On a more light-hearted note, how about everyone here posting about your pet conspiracy theories in this thread? It should prove entertaining if nothing else. :mrgrn:

I don't have any pet conspiracy theories.

But I wonder jtr1962 how it is that you know there is a connection between the death threats you recieved and your conspircacy theory regarding the WTC? Did the callers specifically mention the WTC and your theory?

If anyone would know, working at a beer factory, it would be Splash.

However, it wouldn't be PC if the theory is right, for him to comment.

Not in so many words, but there was a vague mention that I should stick to talking about storage rather than "things that don't concern me". The mention of the word storage immediately made me realize what the phone call was about. Also, it wasn't a death threat in so many words, but rather I was told that "people who say too much have a tendency to disappear." The person was very careful not to directly threaten me or reveal who they might be. They weren't on long enough to do a trace, either, although that likely would have led to some public phone anyhow.

BTW, I have received death threats from pranksters before, including one idiot who got pissed at me because I refused to do work for him after he started calling me every five minutes asking 100 stupid questions, so I know the difference. This particular call shook me up enough to just call it quits as far as the topic at hand goes. After all, I can no more prove my theory at this point than someone can prove God exists, so why bother taking chances that the caller might be someone in a position to do me harm?

I firmly believe the Kennedy"s, three of em, were killed by the Mafia.

They had been business partners with the mob, running alcohol, under Joe K.

The mob swung the election for JFK, using the unions, in one of the north eastern states. Kennedy wins, and, his brother turns around and prosecutes them, and, JFK kills MM, who I'm pretty sure was a mob guy's girl.

People have been killed by the Mafia for MUCH less. I wonder if the baby Kennedy was another part of that vendetta.

In Italy, it's not uncommon for any state's witness to have his entire family decimated, while the guy waits to testify.

I remember watching the trials, when the bosses were being brought in front of congress to testify, and thinking to myself that exposing them in such a way is the antithesis of their philosophy, and, that if you really wanted to die, bringing those guys on national television, for no other purpose then to hear,
"I refuse to testify on the basis that it may incriminate me." Or some such
5th amendment statement of right, was an incredibly sure way to commit suicide by other. Sort of like pulling a 22 on a group of police officers, and shooting them in the vest...

I firmly believe our government's main intrest is self-perpetuation, in a bad way.

A simple solution is to make the jobs 3 months long, and pay shit.

I believe the downfall of our country will be too many laws, that lead too
arbitrary enforcement, and stratification of the society, into a large poor, small middle class, and small to medium size upper class, always a nice reciept for revolution.

Anyone else see similarities between Paris Hilton and Marie Antoinette (who used to dress in a parody of peasants clothes when she went to receive their adultation)?

I, of course, have the irrational belief that I can recapture the affections of a lesbian, something that to everyone else is probably only slightly less possible than Coug's statements about moon landings.

Why? Look at Ann Hesh, or whatever her name is.

Most lesbians I know are REALLY unattractive.

Women go on what they feel, so, your hope might have basis, if you can figure out how to make her FEEL differently about you.

The mere mention of Paris Hilton makes me cringe. This spoiled, stupid, tacky, and I might add ugly bimbo has regularly been on the front pages of the NY Daily News for the last few weeks. Prior to her, it was Jessica Simpson, and Britney before her, etc. In any case, Paris is pretty near the top of my list of people to hate for one reason or another, along with Anna Nicole Smith, Gwenyth Paltrow, JLo and Ben, and whoever else regular makes the front pages in the future. And yes, now I see her vying for the affection of the "peasants" with that stupid TV show. She's too dumb to realize that most of the people watching it are doing so just to poke fun at her. Off with her head, I say! Off with her head!

Why can't they have scientist or engineer of the week instead? At least we could make people famous who have something worth admiring.

You're not alone. The thought has occasionally crossed my mind that I might one day get together again with my ex-GF, and I even took out a personal to that effect on one of those dating sites(I think it was AsianFriendFinder). Of course, the fact that I haven't seen her in something like 20 years makes that belief not a little irrational. Depending on whether or not she let herself go, I might not even want to hook up with her again. Then again, I've managed to stay in decent shape, so it's entirely possible she hasn't changed much, either.

And then there's my strong belief that I'll be with my deceased cat Tiger again. I won't even get into that one.
