The article makes quite the jump to its conclusions. There are variety of possible explanations of the data set they assembled. Maybe conservatives are more likely to pay for their porn whereas non conservatives steal it online? Maybe the non conservatives who life in red states feel more repressed and download more porn?

It seems that the article is just another anti conservative hatchet job posing as a news story.

Okkay, maybe not. But people in conservative states are:

And, if you need furthur proof, the peer-reviewed journal article is linked at the end.

yes I do need urthur proof, other than one peer-reviewed 'journal' article.

The article makes quite the jump to its conclusions.

Nah, the libs are just smarter than the conservs, P2P social networking, Facebook/Twitter....Merc? :D

The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. "The differences here are not so stark," Edelman says.

Where the men are men^^^...and the sheep are nervous :p

Polygamists prob, d/l the most in Uta-tah.

Hmm, repressed societies...errr, Japan maybe? Cosplay, B&D fantasy porn, both anime and regular stuff is really popular stuff!

Yes, but Calif is a squarely majority Democratic/liberal state. Maybe we don't buy enough porn, cause were too busy *making* it? :D

Any sex worker in any city that has ever hosted a gathering of political parties will tell anyone who asks that republicans are also voracious consumers of sex services: strippers, massage parlors that offer "happy endings" and prostitutes.

This is in no way news. My take is that right-wing-types have some hang ups they don't feel they can exercise with their partners and wind up looking elsewhere.

I would contend that rather than consider those republicans as hypocrites, they are just true believers in the free-market ideal that they expound. Sex is business, and they are going to support their local businesses.

It's sad that only Nevada is in the 21st century as far as sex goes...

Nevada???

Legal brothels in counties below a certain population threshold.
They're unbelievably expensive. Prices aren't fixed, but the girls have to pay rent and expensive to the, uh, management, so $500 - $1000 for a "session" is pretty typical.

This is why my brother chooses to buy a $500 plane ticket and spend a week in Prague instead.

Anyway, I'm a porn collector, not necessarily a consumer of it. There's a lot of porn I don't find appealing at all. It's extremely easy to accumulate, though.

On the other hand, the Nevada workers are cleany-clean-clean, and the business is well regulated.

Make it legal. Regulate it. Tax it.

It's very clean and well regulated in Euroland.
Montreal apparently has a trade as well.

I guess everyone has different priorities. I'd rather spend money on a lens, RAID card, or something else of tangible value. Of course I never had any interest in that sort of thing.

In a sense, I believe they have a 'trade' pretty much everywhere in the world :p In the whole of the USA>>> we have craigslist :D

Projected additional $8Bil deficit in Calif next year...what to do? Some say do the same for marijuana, as we already have an estimated ~8Bil in illegal trade there.

Porn must be of some tangible value, otherwise Merc's fav producer wouldn't be spending the $$$ on a Red One camcorder to record pr0n in 4k res.

Most HD porn now is shot with soft focus, or in such a way that the performers are not the only things occupying the frame.

FTV.com likes to use stunning outdoor sites for its HD shoots. SapphicErotica.com does dressed sets with antique furniture. Playboy has fantastic art direction for everything.

Femjoy.com offers still photos at 4k+ resolutions. They maintain amazingly high standards. I'm not sure how well they will translate to video work, though.

Anyway, LunarMist, it's not a priority for me, either. I'm sure that if it were, I'd be making those trips to Prague, too.

It certainly isn't legal here, but like probably everywhere else, it does exist. Instead of prostitutes, they call them escortes. It isn't controlled by the government. Strippers clubs are mostly controlled by bikers while escortes are more often than not operated by street gangs. Or so I've heard...I stay as far as I can from the sex industry. Selling sex for money is against all my principles.

Before buying anything from this industry, think about whom you're really sending your money to. You won't help to improve the life of anyone by giving them your dollars.

I understand the argument about whose behind the industry, but beyond that why is selling sex for money bad? We all sell ourselves for money. Those on this forum are generally selling our intellect but most people in society sell their bodies. Construction workers, for instance, ply their trade with their bodies and some acquired skills. Are prostitutes really that different? They also ply their trade with their bodies and some acquired skills. Like other crafts, they also fill a niche in society. Namely providing services for those who cannot otherwise obtain them.

BTW, some would argue that prostitution destroys marriages. That's patently false. If a spouse is seeing a prostitute then they are seeking something their SO can't or won't provide. In these cases seeing the prostitute is a symptom; not the problem.

I don't see where the commandments apply. What's wrong with a single person using the services of a prostitute? That's not adultery.

Likewise, as I said if a married person partakes then it's a symptom of a larger problem. One that adhering to the relevant commandments more than likely won't fix.

If there are problems at home I'm not sure it is a good idea to dissuade the resolution of the problem.

But I think the answer to your question is no.

Feminists in general would have an interest in legalizing prostitution so as to regulate and improve the safety of the trade. women also have a vested interest in stigmatizing it. Sex is a resource primarily held by women. Women outside the the sex trade (and thus not receiving financial benefit from it) have a vested interest in keeping the supply low so as to not compromise their bargaining power in mating.

Well said, and I would agree.

No humans; they are among the least attractive species to photograph.

I have no RAID arrays.

Merc,

Even after getting the right humans, there are so many other steps required to make it work. The standard is so much higher as well. Everyone knows what humans do and can look like, so they are judged on another scale. Clothes, the subject's self-awareness, expression, emotions, it just makes it a big PITA.

Well I was in a K-town supermarket yesterday, and in the cosmetics section & at the end of an isle big posters for the #1 soju export, Chum-Churum(sp?), scantily clad Hyori was mighty appealing to me :D.

I think I agree with Merc, clearly there are plenty of guys who would take pictures incessantly all day long of Jessica Alba taking a dump :rotfl: (besides the usual Paps).

Was going to post some examples, but I think timwit would complain he'd get fired from his Nazi workplace...sheesh, Hyori is an icon in S. Korea.

NSFW 'tar?

btw, Calif Condor is one of the ugliest birds, no matter how you photograph it. Also, it's in the eye of the beholder---remember the Twlight epi on beauty?, 'Tea' looks kinda ugly to me :p

Obviously there are people who do it well, regardless, as any picture set from Domai.com, Hegre-art.com, Photodromm.com, Met-art.com et al. will prove.

Candids are a different sort of art form with a different sort of skill involved, but I think the results are still more interesting that basically anything else, even with the subjects, you know, have clothes on.

The only pictures I enjoy taking of humans are candids, and that is quite difficult; walking the fine line between tourist and stalker.

I think when trying to take interesting people photo's what is most needed is genuine emotion being expressed and that is a very hard thing to capture. It is that emotion that makes the photographic message believable.
