Wow. I finally get home from my travels and am immediately greeted with an earthquake. Gotta feel loved. :)

LOL, my dad had some important clients fly down for a meeting. They arrived 35 minutes before the Loma Prieta Quake (7.4, the one that messed with the World Series). 2 Hours later they were on a plane out of here, and never came back. Wimps.

Interesting. It was more of a roller than the one in '94. Since I was many miles from the epicenter there was no damage. The Christmas tree was swaying pretty good though until I held onto it.

Loma Prieta was finally evaluated to be 7.1 (initially set at 6.9), I believe. Maybe they further refined their analysis though.

I used to live in CA. I still miss that place. I was in 9th grade during Loma Prieta. I was annoyed - as was everyone - that classes resumed as usual the next day.

I happened to be drifting off to sleep for a nap during the VA earthquake this past December 9th. It, coupled with the cracking noises from the support column next to my bed (I'm in a 20 story building), was large enough to wake me up. It felt like several firm but gentle shoves. I remember thinking to myself, "That sort of felt like an earthquake ... but that's really unlikely ... this is Virginia." I made a note of the time just in case, and then a short while later I heard on the news that it really was an earthquake. Quakes of that size are apparently rare here, but not unprecedented.

Phooey! I didn't feel it, must've been to far away.
Yeah, me neither. Strange huh?
Funny, I felt it all the way here in New York. :-?

Wait a minute-that was just my father walking to the bathroom. :bounce:

LOL. My GF is San Jose didn't feel this one...it was only 7km deep, so didn't travel very far. (I'm 20mi away, she's 70mi)

It has already been 14 years since the Loma Prieta quake? Wow.
And it has been nearly 33 years since the San Fernando quake of 2/9/71! From my perspective that was the worst because I was hit in the head by a falling object. I just got lucky in the Northridge quake because the flying glass missed me in the bed.
