dan rutter article on hard drives

I agree. At work I change hard drives every three years. The expensive Cheetah SCSI drives are replaced when the computer is replaced, every five years.
Has anybody used xxclone that is mentioned in the article??

Bozo :joker:

I have many ~5 year old drives for archives that only operate a few hours each year or two. After only a ~1000 hours of use are they expired in that case?

With drives manufactured many years ago, there were issues with bearings sticking/seizing when the drive was started after being idle for a long time. I don't know if this applies to contemporary drives.
