Dell now available at Staples

"Staples now carries the most Dell ink and toner, notebooks, desktops, all-in-ones, printers, and monitors at your local Staples store. Dell is also available online (at Staples.com)". YAY! (This is an email I just got from Staples).

So the vaunted direct-sell model ain't working no more......

Unfortunately, this is part of a larger sign that Merc brought up a while ago; they've decided to go the budget route, and compete directly with HP/Compaq, Toshiba, and Gateway on price. Meaning their build quality will be equally poor.

I suspect there is room in the market for someone to take up Dell's old model; good, made-to-order systems at a price point lower than Falcon Northwest. Just a beige box with name brand components and a warranty.

I suppose there has always been room in this space, that's why so many of us build machines for profit...
