The things I want to discuss here are all realted to DVD encoding.

1. Settings

I've found that using AutoGK to encode to Xvid with a final size of 2GB gives video quality indistinguishable from the original, does anyone have an opinion on this? Here are the settings I use:

Xvid Codec
AC3 6CH audio if available
Custom 2GB filesize
Auto resolution/Auto Audio

2. Speed

I've found that my A64 Mobile 2700+ takes 4 hours on average to do a film, and an A64 3000+ takes about 3 hours. What would it take to get this down to 2 hours? Would a 3500+ do it?

Mobile only has the one memory channel, going from 1.8 to 2.2 939 pin probably won't be enough. OC that 1.8 to 2.4 and beyond.

Well I just upgraded to an nForce4 and a 3200+ Winchester with 2GB of Geil PC3200...we'll see what kind of O/Cing I can get out of it. The only bummer is that my Gigabyte 6800 Faness AGP card is now for sale cheap...any takers? I would be most interestred in an exchange for a PCIe card if possible.

PUI....wine tasting in Carmel Valley all morning....yum.

Did you go with 2x 1024 for the ram? If not I think nForce4 bumps the timing down if you populate all four slots? Which board did you go with?

I got the Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 and 2x1024 of Geil (the "dual channel" kit). I'm using a Scythe NCU-2000 completely fanless in open air and it's running 15C above ambient at 2.1Ghz. However, one of the temp sensors (I think the NB) is at 70C with a Nexus 120@12v blowing right on it. Any guesses on what I should be able to get the FSB to? Will I have to unlock it somehow to get 2.4+?

Just make sure you keep the HT bus at 1GHz or less (i.e. drop down the HT multiplier when OCing the FSB). When running at 250Mhz, I have to drop the HT to 4x (from normal 5x). Over 250, down to 3x.
