I have a friend who wants to take some .MKV files and create DVDs that will play in a standard DVD player. He isn't tech savvy, and I don't know anything about the .MKVs in question. No fancy menus or other authoring stuff, just a disk that will play in a DVD player.

Thanks!

He's going to have to use mastering software somehow. Some people would call that involved no matter which one he chose. Nero Vision is my usual go-to for such things, but it only has spotty support for .mkv files via a plug-in. Apparently AVS Video Converter will do it natively, but as I recall that program is a bit of a UI nightmare.

At the moment he's playing with "Windows DVD Maker" that ships with Win7. In the past I familiarized him with Format Factory for use with his iThings. I'm just not sure what settings in Format Factory will land him with optimal DVD quality.
