The speed of light isn't so much a limit as it is a barrier.

If you're going slower than the speed of light, you can't go any faster than it. However, if you're already going faster than the speed of light, you can't go any slower than that.

An interesting theory I heard the other day. We are all traveling at the speed of light all the time. Any velocity not consumed in the x-y-z axis are consumed as we pass through time. Therefore the faster we go in x-y-z (space) the slower we go through time.
