Anybody have gaming headset recommendations? Or anti-recommendations? Is 7.1 worthwhile for FPS stuff? The main thing I know is that cheap headsets don't seem to hold up very well.

My kids went through a few Razor Kraken headsets pretty quickly (poor build quality and not that all durable), and are currently using Logitech G733 Lightspeed headsets which seem to working well for them. (They've had them for just over 12mths).

My roommates both play games. One of them had the Razor headset with the cat ears. She said it lasted about 10 weeks, and that is currently off for RMA. Sounds like not buying Razor is a solid plan at least.
Right now I actually have to listen to their games; one of them plays on the big setup in the living room. I get it; it's the biggest TV and the best sound system in the house, but we're all on different schedules and nobody needs to hear whatever anyone else is doing in whichever arena shooter is happening.
