Just a random post tonight. I was trying to offer help to someone in regards to a large database restore. (Their database has 140,000 records) So I became curious as to what SF had in regards to the quantity of records in our DB, so I decided to look it up.

Would anyone like to guess? (us a rough estimate)

answer = 1,064,727 records

Hmm. No option for 15K - 50K. I went with 50K+ as I'm still technically right even if there are millions of records & another answer is closer. :lol:

I also have no idea how php stores things...

I dunno nuffing about psychology but I do know tha there are 20,000 posts (to use a very round figure) and that each post must have database fields to record the date & time, the text, the poster, the IP address, sundry other stuff. Lets pluck a number out of the air and ten to twelve items per post - that's ... er ... 200,000 to 240,000 records.

Hang on, there are also all the membership records, PMs, assorted global settings, various features that don't hppen to be used here but doubtless are still represented in the DB design, plus individual options in each post such as show/hide sig, enable smilies, all that. I'm tempted to go all the way to 1M+ but I think I'll go along with Tea and pick 300,000 plus.

Hmm, you're are right, sorry for the screwup on the pole. It was late and those greater than, less than signs should be changed so that each option is "approximate".

That's what I get for doing this late in the evening. :)

Wow, that's a lot. Before I checked the answer, I guessed it should be around 500,000, but I wouldn't have think that it would be that much. Impressive.

That was my reason for making this random post. I was quite shocked to see how many insert queries have been performed. In comparison to others, I'd imagine this number really isn't significant, but none-the-less, I was surprised.
