Their Travelstar 80GN (is it GN? Anyway, it's something N) features a record-breaking capacity for laptop hard drives. Among the good points, it has an 8MB buffer. On the bad side though, it's only a 4200rpm unit, not a more respectable 5400rpm. IBM also talked about their plan to launch new performance-oriented hard drives for laptops featuring 7200rpm rotational speed.

Thanks to X-bit Laboratories for the news.

I should have posted this on the front page, but I'm almost always half-asleep at this hour so I didn't bother.

Those 7200 RPM units are going to be way outside most users' budgets... laptop hdd's are gaining everyday I check... access times are lowering, data density is increasing.. and power consumption is still staying at reletively low levels.... it's amazing.
