Back in the '80s, I planned a hunt in Africa. Reservations had to be made 1 year in advance. The country we were going to had a coup (sp?) and the government changed hands. I never got to go.
But I still have the 458, 416 and 375H&H that I was planning to take.

Ouch!!! My shoulder hurts thinking about that group. What's your favorite?
Still use the rifles? Is the 416 a rigby or remmington, and who made the rifles?
I target shoot, but, that's about it. I've shot a few things, all vermin, and I just don't much like killing ANIMALS. I guess I don't think they have much free will. Humans on the otherhand...

I built the 416 and 458. The 375 H&H is a Winchester.

I like them all. If you hold them to your shoulder tightly, the kick is more like a big push. You don't want them to get a running start at your shoulder. The 300 Magnums hurt more because of the recoil velocity. Like being slapped, hard. The 416 is in a laminated stock and weighs a ton. The 458 is in a 'glass stock. The 'glass stock 'gives' and absorbs some of the recoil. The 375 is also in a 'glass stock.

The 416 is a 416 Taylor. It is made by necking down a 458 Win case to hold .416 bullets. The 400 grain bullets travel at the same velocity as the Rigby, but operating pressure is much higher.

I still take them to the range on occassion just to clear the cobwebs out (both from the rifle and my head :D )
As far as killing animals, we're on the same page. That's why I don't have a permit to carry....I'd be in jail.

One cure for a bad temper is to carry a gun. I've found you learn to really be selective about ever using it, and, this carries over to your real life.

Do I really want to get into a fight that could land me in jail, over some guy yelling at me, and thinking I cut in front of him in a line, at Costco?

When the result, using either fists or a gun, are the same, the answer is obvious. The gun is usually a much better reminder of what you are going to do may end up in someone being very seriously injured, one way or another.

Of course if you don't figure it out, you could be in jail for the rest of your life.
Or, best case scenario, justifiable homicide, and you kill a gang guy. End up having to move, change your name, so the family, or gang, doesn't come after you? Or, you pull a gun, they leave, and then you have to constantly carry to be sure they don't come back, armed, for revenge? Or, you have to pay massive attorney fees for defense, because some over zealous, ultra-liberal prosecutor wants to make an example of you, carrying without a permit? None of these scenarios have any winners.
