What is the best app to measure total accumulated MB up and down? I'm not looking for any info about the sites visited, etc. I want one that logs to a single file. Thanks.

I'm not sure you can do that if you also have a LAN & router because the application likely can't distinguish between local and internet traffic.

No. The modem is connected to a simple 4-port switch and that is connected to 2-4 computers (primary, secondary and rarely up to two notebooks). There is a separate cable between the primary and secondary computers. I'm only interested in the primary computer internet as it receives the vast majority of use.

I believe Smoothwall 3.0 has traffic graphs for all interfaces that would probably give you what you want

SW3 would do a good job of giving you usage of the whole network. In fact, there is even a VM'ed version that you could run on another machine, provided it had 2 NICs.
