When I plug the USB cable from my KVM into the laptop, the mouse does not function. Furthermore the cursor will not move on the screen even with the touchpad. The mouse itself does not appear to be the issue, because the same problem occurs when there is no mouse on the KVM at all. The keyboard works normally the whole time.

Has anyone had this problem with newer laptops? At least six different computers work just fine on the KVM. I can live with using two mice, but not two keyboards. Thanks.

I've never had this problem before. I have a KVM switch here that sometimes need to have its USB mouse unplug and replug for it to work when I connect a computer to it for the first time, but it's probably not the some problem as the one you describe. I cannot know if a touchpad would work in the meanwhile because it's connected to a bunch of shitty IBM X3650 M2 servers and no laptop.
