Moving a RAID-0 to another motherboard?

I'm going to be upgrading my motherboard from a Gigabyte 6100-based AM2 board to a Gigabyte 570-based AM2 board and would like to keep my OS array (Raptors in RAID-0). What are the chances of this happening successfully?

Problem: Moving onboard-based RAID 0 array from one computer to another.

Solution: Stop using RAID 0.

I am omnipresent
If it's the same kind of controller it should work.
I've replaced controllers a few times without difficulty (eg Promise Fasttrack to Promise Fasttrack), though never from one chip to another.

Obviously not a solution

Problem: Broken arm

Solution: Don't have arms?

There is no data on this array. Just the OS. It could die at any time and I wouldn't lose data. I'd just have to re-install the OS and apps. I'd rather avoid it, but it isn't a big deal.

Avoiding the problem? Always a solution.

And unlike your arms arms, your computer doesn't come with or need RAID 0.

Ditto: I have moved arrays between two Promise fasttrack controllers no problem done it lots of times and even between different types like the 66 and 100. Done the same thing between 3Ware controllers as well, in fact 3Ware specifically states this will work on their site or in users manuals somewhere.

I would say image the whole thing to another drive if you can and give it a try. I rate it a high probability of success if the chipset is the same as you say and the manufacturer is the same as well. If both boards use the same BIOS vendor (Award etc) I would rate it higher still.

Well, it would have been nice to find out, but my GF managed to hose my system before I could test it. She says all she did was blow the fuse, then try to reset it. But from my UPS logs, it looks like the power went on and off at least 6 times, with various spikes and sags along the way. And considering the electric kettle no longer works, I'm wondering exactly what she did.

And no, this system wasn't on the UPS. All my data is on another system in a RAID-5 array that was protected.

Ha! Just got it back. All it killed was the PS, but in replacing the PS I managed to break off another SATA power connector (it's really tight in a P180). Good thing I'm using WD Raptors, as they also support molex power connections.

New motherboard arrived at my office today after I left; I might go down and pick it up tomorrow (my day off) to give it a spin...

For the record; worked flawlessly. As soon as I enabled RAID support for those two drives in the BIOS, the array appeared and booted correctly.

And Vista did a remarkably good job getting all the new drivers (chipset and all) with only a single reboot afterwards.
