.net redistributable?

Why is the redistributable package for .NET 2.0 22MB while the 3.0 - 3.5 versions are only 2.7MB or so?

And should I be installing both, like the old VB runtimes, or does the 3.0 series supersede 2.0?

I have the following sizes for the install files:

Dot Net 1.1 = 23meg
Dot Net 2 = 22meg
Dot Net 3 = 51meg
Dot Net 3.5 = 197meg

Dot Net 1 must be installed by itself. Dot Net 3 contains Dot Net 2. I haven't installed DOT Net 3.5 yet.

And, there are different downloads for 64bit.

Usually when I add "redist" to my search terms it takes me to the right place. I guess for this it didn't.

Yes, that Dot Net 3.5 measures 231meg for me which is rather staggering isn't it? Required for SQLE08 too.

I really don't get the whole sub installer idea, you aren't really saving time just shifting the download to a different time from what I can see. I don't see a lot of time saved for components not needed most of the time.

Depends on what software uses it. If your software only uses 2.0, then there is no sense in installing 3.0 or 1.1.
