AMD launched its Athlon 64 family today, unveiling the 2GHz Athlon 64 3200+ for consumers and similarly clocked Athlon 64 FX-51 for 'pro-sumer' customers seeking that little bit extra.

The difference between the two chips: the FX has a built-in dual-channel 128-bit DDR controller, while the 3200+ connects to a single-channel 64-bit memory bus. The latter works with unbuffered memory, the former with registered DIMMs.

Thanks buddy! I've added your link to the front page with this news article.

I thought about posting it, but since even the Biafra in Africa must know that the Athlon 64 launch date was today, I figured it was hardly a news. Thanks for making up fo my laziness.

I figured the same thing...but I was home today, so it gave me something to do. Not like we're the breaking news for the tech community...old or new, it's still an archive of events.

OK: Well thanks. For us guys not in the computer bizz, this is great news, or news to read, or.etc.

I just remember P3 300's being 1200 dollars, and thank God for AMD.
