Earlier today, Intel announced it would slash the prices of its Celeron processors. Quickly after, AMD replied with an almost generalized price drop of its Athlon XP lineup (with the exception of the highest and lowest-end model : 3200+ and 2000+).
As a result, we'll be able to get, in the upcoming weeks, an Athlon XP "Barton" 2500+ for as low as 89$. And probably even less since the past MSRP of the 2500+ was 103$ and the best price on pricewatch for it was ~95$ (in OEM version). Therefore, it should be reasonnable to expect the Barton 2500+ to drop as low as 80$ for the OEM version very soon.
Together with the very low memory prices these days, it's easier than ever to build a very respectable system for peanuts.
