While I don't think the latest iPod is an item of great interest among our membership, I'll give Apple its minute of glory on our front page since I rarely pay attention to them.

BTW, did the original Mac has really been released only 20 years ago? That was written in the newspaper here this morning. I thought the Mac was launched in '82. My memory must have failed me once again.

Hmm not a bad price for the storage/size. Of course that depends on whether it appears as a mass storage device in Windows... Add some kind of CF adapter and it could a nice digital photo storage device, those 4GB Microdrives aint cheap.

I had an ipod for about an hour and a half. It got sold. :)

The Mac came out in 1984. There was an absolutely fantastic commercial that introduced it. Beat the heck out of the IBM commercials of the time (with a Charlie Chaplin character).

For those willing to use Quicktime, the 1984 commercial can be found here.

As far as the Macintosh history goes, the original PC called Macintosh came out in January of 1984. There was a GUI based predecessor called Lisa that came out in 1983, but was not labeled a Macintosh until its second incarnation as the Lisa2/Macintosh XL in 1985. It was a very expensive system when it first came out - about 4 times as much as the Macintosh.

Yes. They digitally added it for the 20th anniversary of the commercial.
