The problem with moving to on-die memory controllers is that it is then up to AMD to crank out new versions that support newer/better performing memory tech. So the onus of upgrading becomes the replacement of the cpu, rather than the mobo. As long as AMD continue to innovate things should be fine.

Err Does this mean it's going to become as difficult to upgrade your CPU as it currently is to upgrade your motherboard? Is their anyone here who upgrades their motherboard without a full OS reinstall?

sysprep usually works fine, but i use the opportunity to clean install anyway

I do, for my personal stuff, from time to time. However, I'm almost always going Via-based to Via-based. It's a painless process anyway.

As long as you stay with the same chipset family - e.g., VIA to VIA, or SiS to SiS, it's no problem. Switch chipset brands and you are in deep water without a reinstall.
