Releasing a 2.2 GHz part so quickly after their 2 GHz implies that AMD may have finally turned the corner on whatever yield problems they've experienced and be gearing the Athlon 64 and Opteron architectures up for a real fight.
I'm still waiting for reports of the Athlon 64/Opteron's performances for Folding@home. I've eeen SETI@home benchmarks, but the Alien-oriented client is very different from the F@h one.
A 2.4GHz Opteron doesn't look impossible by the end of the year if the 2.2GHz variant materialize within the next month.
