My BMI is horrible. I've gained 40lbs in the last 8 months. I'm hoping at least some of it was muscle, but I'm not so sure :(

My BMI usually hovers right near the line between being overweight and obese but a lot of the weight is due to muscle mass in my legs from years of cycling. That's why computing BMI on the basis of weight and height is a poor method. In truth I am overweight, no denying it, but by about 15 to 20 pounds, not the 40+ indicated by my BMI. I was on a roll (literally) riding about 300 miles a month in July and August. I had planned to just continue riding my Raleigh until the airless tires came in. However, on September 4th I got a rear flat. Since rear flats are a major pain to fix, I figured I'll just strip down the bike for the planned rebuild, and wait for the new tires, rather than fix the flat (and incidentally a few more broken spokes). Unfortunately, the tires didn't come in a timely fashion, so the Raleigh remains downstairs disassembled. :( I did get my other bike rideable by late September but the break in riding crimped my style. I was planning to start riding 400 or 500 miles per month once the Raleigh was in decent shape, and the cooler weather came. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men always go astray. At least I'm back up to about 150-200 a month. When the airless tires come in and my Raleigh is fixed I'll go for 400-500 mile months. The extra weight should come right off even without changing my diet.

The only real difference between me being 165 pounds and ~200 is 2500 miles less a year of riding. I wasn't overweight until I slacked off on the cycling and walking. Well, at least I consistently walk a few miles almost every day but it just isn't enough.

They used to have some kind of plastic pliers that pinched your underarm and told you the BMI, didn't they?

5'10 and 255lbs.

However, that's down from what it was three years ago, when I weighed about 330lbs.

That's great Merc keep it up. Man, I played boxing on the Wii the other day and my shoulder blades were sore for a couple of days.

BMI=23.7

Tim, That's freakin' anorexic. I know what I looked like when I was 6'1 160. It wasn't pretty. Or easy to stay there.

I'm definitely not anorexic. I am fairly active and I have a relatively small frame, narrow shoulders. I was the same height in high school and weighed less than 150. I also was running 40 miles a week. I can eat as much as I want and basically gain no weight. I also have been biking 100+ miles a week until a week ago, knee started hurting, probably because of IT Band. I'm also not weak, I can easily do 12 pull-ups overhand or underhand. And a couple months ago I was up to 16 before I quit out of laziness. My crappy scale tells me I am about 12% body fat, but I bet a more accurate reading would put that even lower, probably around 10%.

I had a BMI of 20.1 for a very long time. I was thin, but was healthy; didn't even catch cold or cough, ever. Then I was at a BMI of 22 for several years. Then I started to put on weight due to bad eating habits, and it's been downhill since then. The universe is expanding and so am I. Well, actually, I've been kinda stable at this weight for the last 6-7 years or so. But I've got to lose some of it.

I remember getting down to 140 after my first semester in college because the food wasn't palatable. That's a BMI of around 20 for my height, and yes, I did look anorexic. I could see my ribs. For me 160 to 165 is ideal, perhaps 170 now that I have more muscle mass.

A guy I knew in high school was 5'1" and 90 pounds. Even though he had a small frame he looked like a walking skeleton.

Although I personally believe I'm out of shape, most people would probably consider me trim/light and about average fitness level. ...though the average American fitness level may not be so high now that I think of it.

I lost ~ 8lbs a month back while backpacking. The weight came off easy, but has slowly returned in the month or so I've been stagnating. It really did surprise me as I didn't know I had 8 lbs to lose.

Some of you guys put me to shame regarding activity level. I work too far to walk, could perhaps bike if I were in better shape. I might be able to walk to the grocery store, but there aren't sidewalks and I have to cross what is basically a highway.

When looking for a new house I wanted something closer to work/shopping, but I would have to suffer with about 30+ more years on the houses that fit that criteria in this area. The end result is that I do almost nothing worth mentioning.

I'll have to see about getting a bike or something else I can use more than occasionally.

The lowest I've been while 6'2" was 140lbs. I was very, very sick; couldn't even walk. 175-185 is a nice, safe range for me. I thought I was still there until this thread had me check the scale. What an unpleasant surprise :(

Great, so I'm somewhat in shape and I've lost a bunch over the past couple years, but according to the BMI scale I'm still overweight. :crap:

I know I posted a photo of me from years ago (I can't find that thread with all our pictures), but this is me as of this past September:

Professor Handruin. Didn't know you wore glasses. And you use a dSLR (think you mentioned it in that thread).

dd: I see David, Justin and Matt. Is Moscow wearing the invisible cloak? You ain't balding, you just have a large forehead for that huge brain of yours.

dd: I was referring to the tags for your photo on Flickr, not to your gf! Say hi to Olga - she's a pretty lady with expressive eyes. Take down your link!

I don't have a gf - I'm married. And I'm 12,500 miles from home right now, and don't have any pics to post. And if I did, you'll have to kiss me g'bye. The wife will kill me.

As for me, I don't wear masks for Halloween; don't need to. I'm scary just the way I am. ;-)

Real women are outside your apartment.

Prove it.
They aren't here. I have no idea where the fuck they are, but they aren't any place that I am willing to go, so they might as well not exist.

I see lots of 24 - 30 year olds with three or four kids (with three or four different fathers), no education, divorced and looking for the wallet that will give them a suburban middle-class lifestyle.

That's not exactly my romantic ideal.

Log in to PlentyofFish.com or OKCupid.com. Create a profile and say you live in Portage, Indiana. Look at what (and "what", rather than "who" is a fair description) comes up.

Nitsirk did that, once. She offered me her sympathy about an hour later.

Do you like real women or not?

I don't even know. I really don't. I'm missing huge chunks of life and social experiences that people are supposed to have at my age, and the net result is that there's more or less no way I'm going to be appealing to woman and the chances of her actually being appealing to me are asymptotically approaching zero.

Just move then. What is keeping you tied to Portage Indiana?
Move out to CA or out here to philly PA or new york.
The more people the more likely you'll meet someone.

It took me about five years to find a full time permanent job, out of college. I hate being a full time contractor and I am deathly frightened that I'd never find another decent job.

Also, I hate moving with the same passion I exhibit for Western Digital and republicans.
