You're single. You have a marketable skill. The job market seems good right now as opposed to post bubble.

Let's go with a story to illustrate the situation as you've portrayed it.

A bear moves into a zoo. While he is surrounded by animals, there are no other female bears that will mate with him. One female bear just likes other female bears. The other female bears look like manbearpigs and should be shot on sight. So the bear desperately should be transferred to another zoo but is stuck there because he does the daily show at the zoo.

There are other zoo's that could use that daily show to bring in visitors.

So Sam the bear wants to break out of the zoo but he is fearful of his future on the outside. But one day he finally musters up the courage and breaks out of the zoo. This is where the real story begins....

Also, I hate moving with the same passion I exhibit for Western Digital and republicans.
I'm with you there. This is doubly true for me because I live in the largest city in US. Moving anywhere else would seem boring by comparison. Besides, if it doesn't have a subway or four seasons I wouldn't be interested. I just don't want to get into the expensive hassle of car ownership or getting a driver's license. The four seasons thing is self-explanatory. I have enough trouble getting through a few months of summer. I'd hate to live in a place where it's always like summer.

I'm 5' 9", weigh 175, & have a 33" waist. My BMI is 25.9 but I don't think I look over-weight. I guess those numbers are on the conservative side.

Actually I mis-stated, it's higher than that. Oh well, I figured with all the posts on this thread, there would have been the usual 'tangents'...Brittany jokes.

I could never live like jtr does, it would be excurciating to not enjoy life as he does by limiting his options and mobility by being without a car (watch out jtr, I'm about to do a rant about public transportation...as Merc would say, "it's evil".

Another thing to make jtr sick besides exercise, (well you can oggle Mia Lee while watching the report at least, and if she's too 'bountiful', then maybe our other local newsreporter getting-long-in-the-tooth too, single tiny 5'2" busty Asian babe, Sharton Tay telling you about headaches and avoiding sake with your sushi...she wants to get married and have kids her bio on CBS says-she'd better hurry up as she turned 40 this year).
Not only is Brit getting fat and is out of control, too immature to be a mother, she spends and saves none of the estimated $737k/mo she earns (new hit album should raise the income higher so she can spend more :) ).

Hmm, maybe I should explain the OP next, as I did it again last night :p?

Britney Spears is nouveau riche white trash. Always has been, always will be. Six months of her income and I'd be set for life. What a shame.

I don't care to go any place so remote that I need a car to get there, so I'm not limiting my options at all. Besides, you can go a lot more places than you realize without a car. It may take longer or be less convenient, but it still is possible. One of these days if I ever find a suitable companion to join me I may even attempt a cross country cycling trip.

I don't see any evidence at all that the job market is better for techies. I couldn't get a decent job during .Com and pretty much all the students I've ever trained for computer work have had the same struggle. Only a very small number have gone on to any kind of tech work.

I already work as much as I possibly can. That's what I get for being single. It's pretty much all I have to look forward to.

Try applying your technical skills to a specific area based on your other interests and expertise. Computers and related technology are used in so many ways. I'm sure there are plenty of good career options if you have the right attitude.

You know how other people have interests and expertise in other areas?
Well I don't. Computer crap is pretty much my whole life.

Jenny Garth, post babies looking pretty good though. Geez, I kind of look like Brittany, actually my midsection looks worse...but you won't find me showing it off, lol.

Downed at least 10g of Costco generic
Naproxen sodium

http://pain.emedtv.com/anaprox/anaprox-dosing.html,

over the last 2 weeks or so, sometimes two 220mg tabs up to 3 times a day (which is right at the maximum recommended limit which you need to balance against negative side effects which include longer term liver failure...maybe I should just down some morphine or smoke some potent indica strain of marijuana??; and the soreness never really left until several days later, only to be revisited the next time I..."Ooops I did it again"...exercise is torture, pusnishment for my gaining 40lbs in the last 5yrs, *so* painful, I ache all over, sore quads, sore shoulder blades, aching/throbbing, sore arms and hands, aching feet!!! cracked skin under the ball of my right toe causing noticable pain there...ugggh...and it makes you hungry to boot! Exercise is EVIL, no matter that somewhere a year down the line, it may provide some health benefits if I can keep it up steadily, constantly...right now it's killing me!!!

More later...to flush out the OP :).

I read in the paper today that people with a BMI of 25 to 30 tend to live longer than those who are either obese or normal weight, all other things being equal. I have no idea why, but that's what the article said. Exercise and diet in the end are more important than weight, at least within limits. So maybe we're all worried here about nothing. Truth is I'm interested in losing some weight more for appearance than health. I just hate the way I look with the extra pounds.

Wow, Brittany really looks disgusting lately. And I hate all her apologetic fans who say things like she's not fat, she's just not a teenager any more. Yeah, right. Well then how come lots of adult females don't have shapes like that?

For what it's worth the pain will probably diminish as your body gets used to exercise. This summer when I pushed myself to ride 300 miles a month (further per month than I'd gone since mid 1994) I had some problems with my right foot hurting about 15 miles into a ride. I was still able to go 25 or 30 miles, and the pain more or less stopped when the ride was over. Nevertheless, this was something new to me. When I didn't ride for 3 weeks in September on account of not having a rideable bike, it seems whatever it was fixed itself. Last few rides there's no pain in that foot at all. Moral of the story-maybe take a break for a few weeks from the more intensive parts of your exercise regime. All I did when my bikes were broke was walk.

We went for a hike yesterday and got lost. Like 9 miles lost, 2 miles of which through knee-high marsh and scrub without trail. I didn't think Olga would survive it, but she didn't complain once until we got out. We went in at 11AM and got out just before sunset. I'll process some pictures at some point.

I gave you all plenty of time (Howell, you clicked on the link and went immediately into a coma, yes :) ), the link to the study about how bad excess body fat is, and I expect you, like me (lol), read the entire 390pg report, yes? There will be a test! Don't make me post the entire report here as that will surpass the lenght of the Something Random thread.

Oh ****, age related delayed reaction, or just bad genes? Pain in lower left side of my back, good 3in to left of spine right about hip joint, painful muscle ache. I'm quite familiar with this ache, as it's a result of inflammed nerves where the herniated disk is. I noticed it last Saturday, when I did the mistake of exercise = evil. Seemed to get better, or the naproxen intake hid the worsening effect. Today, I really noticed soreness/pain when bending over...damn, I'm fallling apart.

Either that or I should cause myself increased heart disease risk by increasing my stress levels, just like ddrueding says he lives his life...woohoo! Should I subject myself to more of her antics jtr? What do you think? Somehow I think I'd rather suffer much more physical pain, than endure sleepless nights thinking about (or more accurately seriously wanting to *not* think about them) women that stress me out. Have had my full ration of suffering, and I doubt I'd forget about physical pain while at the same time enduring mental trama :p ...I'm not a rat experiment, damn it. 'I am not a number!' (Patrick M. A few months ago my mom's doctor recommended trying tonic water. The quinine is supposed to relieve inflammation. Turns out a doctor was actually right about something for a change. I've tried it myself. It greatly helped with my carpal tunnel syndrome, and may have been the reason the foot pain I mentioned earlier subsided. I recommend trying it over any drugs. You're right about the long-term liver damage from using almost any prescription drug on a regular basis. And since you can mix the tonic water with various alcoholic beverages it should be right up your alley. ;)
