I thought this looked interesting over at the inquirer.

Plugging into a PCI express x1 slot (finally - a use for it!), the $250 Intensity allows capture of HDMI streams at up to 1080i or 720p (but not 1080p, a little disappointingly), and works on either Windows or Mac OS systems. Also, being HDMI, it can capture video and audio simutaneously, without any need for assistance from a separate sound card, which is helpful.

Specialised for those with certain HDV camcorders. It doesn't capture protected content (i.e. that from DVD/HD-DVD players).

But certainly, an interesting way to get fantastic video quality captures from consumer level gear.

Or you could use firewire and transfer the HDV out of the camera instead of trying to capture HDMI.

Yes. That is what I will be doing. However, knowing about other options is certainly not harmful. Given that I'm talking about a guy who just bought a $4,000 video camera, it might useful to mention it.

Yeah, but with FW you are left with HDV compressed video, the HDMI option allows you to capture uncompressed.

The Sony HDR-HC3 has HDMI output.
