Reinstalling windows 2000...

Well, I couldn't figure out a way to boot from floppies, and fix the existing operating system.

It required dual installation of the UL3d drivers, so the os could see the raid array.

Once I figured that out, I decided I would reformat in ntfs, and start again.

I'm not sure why the cd drives aren't recognized, but, it's almost like a virus, or some deletion by accident stopped the computers ability to see any cd or dvd drive.

Reformatting, while a major pain, should elimenate that problem, I hope.

I lost a ton of good porn, too :wink:


I have a pretty cool switch, that allows me to use my old P3 450 to send you messages, while I reformat.

The real problem is I ate about 1/2, or more, of a huge tri-tip, while doing this stuff, without realizing it...

You buy tri tips for around 4-5 bucks a pound, at Costco. With Filet going for 15 $ a pound, and New York $10 dollars a pound, it's enough to make one a vegitarian...

By the way, the trip tip was about 2 pounds, and I think I went through about 10-12 oz. Fantastic. Marinate in Lea &Perrins overnight, sprinkle with Hickory salt, sear in the broiler, then turn down to 375 to finish, and let sit for about 15 minutes after taking out of the oven.

Temp should be about 125-130 F in the center.

I figured out part of the problem: incorrect termination on the drives, coupled with a bad drive connector on the cable. Works fine, as long as it's terminated right, and, I don't use the third connector.
Serves me right for allowing someone else to touch my computer. When I bought the Plextor writer and reader, I went to a Plextor approved service place in Union City.

I had them install the drives, but didn't check their work. ASSUME and I
end up with a lot of work, correcting theirs.
They had termination on on all the plextors, and RPC jumper was not in the right position on the DVD Pioneer, along with no termination, and it was the last item on the chain.

I don't think they do much scsi stuff.

I have the Pioneer DVD player in place, along with the Ultra Plex 40 X burner, and, burning to the Liteon firewire drive, I'm getting 30-40X burn rates, using the Plextor as a source.

Using the DVD player as a souce, I get 7X burn rates. This using Roxios
CD creator lite, 5.0, cd copier.


The Plextor 12X writer works great now, but it's way slower then the Lite on.
Can't make up my mind if it's worth getting a new Granite Digital cable, or just switching to firewire as the SCSI devices slowly die, which may take a long time.

I'm pretty sure the original problem was caused by installing Roxio 5.0 over 4.0 Roxio CD creator, along with the bad drive connection.

Ahh, computers. A great way to spend time...

Given the insane price of fillet in the US, I've been tending to get delmonico chuck steak, it has fantastic marbling and tastes better than most fillet IMO. Not so good for my cholesterol but too tasty to resist. Goes well with some J.D Western Spicy Chargrill sauce.

i like dales steak marinade. That, a hot grill, and some salt is all you need for a nice med-rare steak.
