when I pullug in a neu Cruzer marco, some applicatyion runs and CD drive is cerated, attributed to the U3! Then i opted out - for removal, but the files are still there. Is this a dangerous malware type of applicationes? (I see bizarer jpegs of Mexican cartoon rats.) What is teh best way to conmpeletly obliterate any remaanants? Thanks.

There's a utility in there that wipes the U3 software from the USB stick. Last time I did this which was a few months ago, it was an option within their client utility that runs in the systray. (It's hidden, but it's there).

Or plug it into a non-MS OS, fdisk it, and reformat it...

I hate it when they put crap on new thumbdrives. I now use the Kingston DT Mini Slim 2GB ones, as they ship blank. If I do get one with crap preloaded, I stick it in my Ubuntu laptop and blow the partition away first.

I think U3 didn't make it in the marketplace. Most drives don't seem to have it any longer.

My Cruzer, purchased about 2 months ago, came with U3. While at first I formatted the thing and put on PortableApps, I later re-installed U3 as it will let me run an MP3 player on work computers.
