There are already court cases in progress challenging the authority of the FTC over ANY services offered by Telecom companies.

Speaking of monopolies abusing customer's lack of choice... how about Google / YouTube and others censoring content they don't agree with?

If Youtube censors you, you can post somewhere else or host your own.

If Charter doesn't want people to see your site a lot of people aren't going to see it.

Where a lot of people aren't going to see it.

YouTube and the like are like a privately owned town square where the owners get to decide who gets to speak in the square. The same giant companies clamoring for net neutrality claiming fairness and equality have no problem being unfair and arbitrary in punishing people who they disagree with politically.

Irrelevant. It's two separate problems.

It appears that I may be based in the US for the next few years at least. ;)

I thought you had the T-Mobile?
I have had T-Mobile for about 2 years. Last spring I moved over two of the numbers from Verizon and switched to a T-Mobile family plan. I finally killed off the last line with Verizon by porting the number to Google Voice (which forwards to the T-Mobile number).

It's too early to know the final outcome. I will be responsible for 6 more people than in 2017.

Not like the political socialists. :D
The sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instantgram, etc. are not the place for serious communication.
Instant messaging or texts are also crap. I want an easy to organize permanent record. How do you guys capture those records?

We've recently expanded to include Slack, but I'm concerned about being tied to a single vendor's product and not having adequate backups of the data.

IT, Finance and other heads are popping up on the lower right all day. I liked the old days when IT support actually talked to you and resolved problems.

Anyone here directly affected by the US gov shutdown?
The gov't doesn't actually shut down. It's all a big bunch of nonsense whipped up by the media for political grandstanding. As far as I'm concerned they could leave it "shutdown" indefinitely.

Who knew the imaginary rights of criminals illegally in the country were the hill for congressional Democrats to die on. I can't think of any other country in the world that would "shutdown" the gov't because about half of the elected federal politicians think a bunch of illegals aliens deserve special treatment even over its own citizens.

You haven't visited a news site or seen a newspaper?

No, not since the early 80s. I'm still on December for the network TV playback.

I work in the private sector as a civilian. I expect there would be a long term impact to our business if it continues for months, but I don't expect any departmental impact in the short term.
I suppose some employees have spouses or family members that may not be working and that could be serious.

I know (in Oz) we're getting a lot of mixed stories about it, ranging from the US gov is now in free-fall unable to service it's debts (at a federal level) which may lead to another great depression for the US through to business as usual except some federal employees are now effectively on unpaid leave until the matter is sorted... and some businesses that have have monies owed by the federal gov will have to wait a while to have those debts/owing paid (which may effect jobs on that front).

It's mostly political theater. No one is going to not get their money. They might have to wait a little bit though. Previous recent "shutdowns" have taken place when Democrats were in the White House and they've intentionally tried to make the "shutdown" as painful as possible on the American people to score political points (like closing open air normally unrestricted access monuments and parks by erecting barricades and placing guards there to chase people off). I expect Trump will do the opposite and order all the Federal agencies to make the "shutdown" as painless on the American people as possible.

I've yet to see Trump do anything that makes things as painless as possible for anyone but himself or his rich friends. That would be a first for his administration.

Good, Good... Let the hate flow through you...

BTW, you must be one of his rich friends too since you'll be getting more take home pay starting next month.

That's the only focus point a Trump supporter can make right now. Change the topic and straw man the discussion by focusing on me hating him as if that's a bad thing.

Nice try on your crap spin and wordplay. His tax agenda was nothing more than to make his rich friends stay rich and businesses stay rich in a permanent manner. They desperately needed a "win" at the house since they've been able to do nothing during the time he's been in office. Sure, I get a couple points reduced from my taxes for a few years but that doesn't make me his rich friend. The corporate tax rate drops a lot more than anyone else's personal taxes and they're the last ones who need this kind of tax cut with the billions they get to hide off shore. Don't focus on that though since it's a much bigger concern to build a stupid wall and keep out these illegals.

Screw the people who have been here for decades, living a good life, contributing to society, because they weren't lucky enough to be born here and their parents brought them here.
Hell, even some of the Republicans think that is wrong.

The Republicans were cool with letting CHIP expire for months, but yeah, the Democrats are the only ones that don't care.

You, like many others have Trump Derangement Syndrome. Why don't you just own it?

It's called creating a competitive business environment in the US. You see all the people getting raises and bonuses because of the tax cut? You see all the new announced investments and expansions in the US? Corporations that announced they're going to repatriate their money and bring it back to the US (paying taxes on it) instead of holding it overseas? You see the GDP at >3.0%. How terrible!!! I'm sure those employees are very upset.

The problem here is that you apparently think the gov't is supposed to make sure the rich don't stay rich, but spread the wealth around. How's that working out in Venezuela?

BTW, I'm sure you'll refuse your tax cut and return it to the treasury as a voluntary contribution as a form of protest.

Screw the people who have been here for decades, living a good life, contributing to society, because they weren't lucky enough to be born here and their parents brought them here.

Cry me a river... I don't care if they're here through no fault of their own or not. We either have rule of law or we don't. Someone who commits insider trading for years to provide a nice life for themselves and their family doesn't get to keep the money and their lavish lifestyle when the SEC catches up with them because it would be bad for the other innocent family members to suffer for the one parent's crime. Families are "broken up" by the judicial system all the time. We send convicted criminal parents to jail all the time even if it means the kids go into the system (foster care, etc.). Why is illegal immigration different?

BTW, does everyone in the world have the right to come and live in the US?

The Republicans were cool with letting CHIP expire for months, but yeah, the Democrats are the only ones that don't care.
Please... The proposed offer from the Republicans has a 7 year extension in it. Democrats are demanding 10.

Ultimately, I'll give the Democrats credit. They're playing shrewd politics. They want to ice the economy with the shutdown and bring in millions of new dependent voters to make sure they never lose another nation election again.

Bahaha really? You're actually going to be the guy who uses and calls someone as having TDS? You realize that actually insults you, your argument, and your intelligence, not mine.

Go on. Continue to make up and preach more BS just like your beloved president has swindled you and the rest of his followers with.

Since your argument strategy offers nothing in having a meaningful conversation you can feel free to declare yourself a winner in the conversation you had with yourself. Enjoy the delicious victory.

You seem like a really smart guy when it comes to most things. It is clear you do a lot of research on audio gear, but for some reason you seem to only get your news from the GOP bubble.
There is a lot of room for negotiation on doing what is right on this issue, but you racists are only interested in the solution that gets rid of all the brown people.
Because those illegal immigrants, in many cases aren't harming anyone in any other way and are actually improving the country. Lets keep deporting the school teachers, police, scientists, artists, engineers, and fireman because their parents broke a law.
In your mind, it is cool to screw over multiple generations of people, to include children born here, because their grandfather, decided to cheat the system.
