Suddenly I am getting tons of spam all day, maybe 75/hour. All of them are about mail delivery failures. My mailbox will be full when I return from work tomorrow if this keeps up. Is something special happening today? Usually I get about 30 spams/day on that address.

Sounds like someone decided to use your address as the "from" in a batch of spam mails. The mails you are getting are likely from mail servers that are blocking the spam "you" sent.

Reverse spamming, yay! This is also a way that someone can e-mail bomb you indirectly.

So am I totally screwed or will it die down after a while?

I had this happen to me a couple of months ago.
Very frustrating.
It died down after a few days and lasted at most a week.

I tried to track down the source IP from the messages and reported it to abuse@thatdomain.

Same thing happened to me, I contacted My ISP and they did nothing... Luckly it was my ignore Address: Nul@comcast.net so I just ignored it. I just use that address to ID spam that needs to be blocked or as an Email address for those I don't want anything from them.

Just one more reason to run some kind of spam-blocking software yourself. Just be sure to NOT send auto-responses, you've seen that it does more harm than good.
