I built a Linux box that runs a POS (point of sale) app and a bunch of serial terminals for a local chain of tire stores that's been running constantly for about four years now.

No, it's not connected to the internet.

And of course, if that's impressive, I've seen Netware 3 machines working on 4000 days of continuous uptime.

Have you ever had someone tell you rediculous uptime stories... I had one person tell me their NT 4 server at a university had been up for 7 odd years before it finally went down because the building caught fire...

Unfortunately for the story teller NT 4 was something like 5 years old at the time... and not like you can do much of anything with pre-service pack 3 NT4 anyway.

Just noticed SR improved the layout (got rid of the 2nd column from the left which contained all the happy faces) of the threads listings...makes a big world of difference in my opinion (looks cleaner/fresher).

Their average forum member crowd hasn't improved though.

Read the second line of that post. I guess he probably calls an helicopter every time he has to go to the grocery for milk too.

mckennma is just as bad. He loves to sprout bullcrap on Ars. When it is pointed out that he is giving dodgy info, he just prattles on about his config.

They do seem to be having a lot of problems. One wonders why they made the change. It seems to me that SR should spend more of their precious little time reviewing drives and not playing with boards. Many of the drives available for many months at retail are never tested.

Nice, blake. But is it your desktop PC? It is harder to keep one's main desktop rig running than it is a server tucked away in a corner somewhere...

BTW, you like in Kansas... isn't that close to Tornado Alley? ;)

close? It is tornado alley... we had a massive dose of tornados this year.. luckily none hit my area... one did come a few blocks from my school's campas (University of Kansas) and destroyed some apartments.

yeah, yeah the computer doesn't do anything really.. 'cept use electricity... my main PC never goes more than a week or so before reboots for whatever reason...
