It looks like a nice drive. A little bit behind for its I/O in games, but overall it's very good. The low noise and power consumption/dissipation makes it perfect for HTPC.

SR's conclusion for reliability is made from a too small sample pool to determine anything. A single unlucky buyer that received a bad batch of drives can shift the reliability figures of any given drive to Hell.

I agree entirely, Coug. The "reliability" figures touted by SR are, scientifically speaking, straight out of cloud-cuckoo land. But, of course, honestly compells me to ask if anyone ever got a bad batch of P80s? We have sold some phenomenol number of them, and the failure rate is tiny. Maybe some poor soul got a box that the wholesaler or courier bounced around.

I don't like the conclusion - "decent" undercuts the drive. Take a look at SR's own comparisons database and only a handful of drives do better under their tests -- all of which are either brand new flagship max capacity units or scsi.

And here's another point -- where's some commentary on the fact that the Samsung falls within 5% of the much highly praised Raptor for SR's own Office and High End tests ?? .... Anyone ??

Anyways, I remain highly skeptical (at this point in time) whether SR's test suite is acheiving what it sets out to accomplish - i.e performance compariability.

I do, however, think that the test suite ellucidates some excellent points about the general nature of hdd performance .... its just, I don't know if the test suite can be accurately used as a tool to make comparisons between drives.

Once a whore, always a whore...  :mrgrn:

Guess Samsung needs to advertize more, and maybe they will get a higher rating.

The current SR test bed appears to produce results that are even more confusing and/or meaningless than ever.
