symantec didnt make ghost in the 1st place... a new zealand based company called Binary Research did... and they sold it for several hundreds of dollars a copy... Symantec bought it from them thankfully.

CP aquired Xtree first, then Symantec bought out CP.

Xtree clones have flourished however, like Ztree and UnixTree.

(Winfax, Talkworks, Wincomm pro, Cyberjack)

And Quarterdeck (Cleansweep, Crashguard)
and probably one or two others that I don't recall.
(not counting the earlier purchase of the Peter Norton branded apps)


Interestingly, Powerquest was founded by Eric Ruff, the same guy that
created Q-DOS and Optune IIRC. I remember a past presentation where
he remarked on his desire to never sell out Powerquest like he had to
with Gazelle Systems (his old company). But I guess times change.

I had always liked Clean Sweep and Virus Sweep.

Crashguard....<think>.....did Symantec (maybe under the Norton name) ever release a version of Crashguard? I think I once ran that back in the bad old days of Win9x on a 486 <shudder>

I think "Crashguard" caused more crashes than it saved. It was part of Symantec's marketing strategy: "Look at how many crashes we protected you from".
