I'd like to see optical media be replaced by USB flash drives-like storage devices. They are much more practical. The current generation of flash drives go up to 4GB. I hope that we'll see 10GB models at reasonnable price in a few years. THAT would be the absolute end of CD/DVD.

I really don't think that will happen in the next decade (maybe longer) as a CD or DVD can be produced for well under $1. OTOH, flash memory is probably about 1000 times more expensive.

It would not make sense for Microsoft to release the version of Windows on a USB flash stick. It would be far too costly.
