THG was so popular then that it was my first regularly "attended" hardware site. Next was "blink-blink" (just realized I couldn't remember, just that he was PC hardware's boy wonder).
What annoyed me was his having to break up articles into a paragraph-long segments. I was on verrry slow dial-up then and it was a b****.
Haven't been to those sites for years and years.
My greatest joys then were PC Guide and Storage Review. Was strictly a lurker then.
What got me out of the woodwork was a worry. There was a time Tannin (he wasn't Tannin yet, then) wasn't posting so I had to ask around. I was cheerfully assured that he was only on one of his sabbaticals.
After the great SR crash, I stopped going there also. I don't remember how I stumbled upon SF but this, to me is the SR of old.

What TF happened? It seems like one decade were were all a certain age, and then a mere ten years later we are all suddenly ten years older!

I'd like to retire (and there's an involuntary aspect to it as well). But I'm not at the age people usually retire, though. Not that it matters, I feel a million years old.

Tony, I think Eric is one year younger than you are. I lost the count, but one way or another, he's not far. Buck might have reached his fifties, but if he did, it is a recent event.

AFAIK, Tom Pabst hasn't been involved with THG content for years now. A search of THG shows he stopped writing articles in 2000, although he is credited with a small contribution in 2003.
I also thought that Omid Rahmat had been running the show since 2001/2002 (before the abortive joint venture with The Register). He was credited as General Manager while Tom was Editor-in-Chief (I think). I see Omid is now CEO.
The website was revamped in December 2005 and references to Thomas Pabst have been removed. My unsubstantiated guess is that he sold the business back in 2001/2002 but remained as a figurehead until 2003.
