Because the K8 has two, independent memory controllers you theoretically don't have to add DIMMs in pairs if you don't want to. Now, I know with certainty that Opterons allow this, and you can activate/inactivate memory channels in the BIOS, but I haven't been able to confirm whether 939 A64s actually do.

I'm thinking about picking up a single DIMM for a possible 939 system, instead of a pair and am trying to get some certainty as to whether this will work. Does anyone have experience, or comments regarding this?

While in Oregon, I semi-work from home...this page gets refreshed a LOT. I'm always in search of new projects to keep me busy.

Every manufacturer? Single channel support is now AMD's call, as they have the memory controller.

And yes, it should work (according to the people who make the chips).
