Hi I've been playing around with Quake 4, and to run at highest settings requires 512mb of VRAM. Now the ATI 1600 pro, AGP has it, for around 160 dollars, if anyone really had one.

I could also go to a PCIE and dedicate another computer to that.

Has anyone compared the X800XL and the X1600 Pro, AGP cards?

The only review I found indictate that the cards were the SAME speed, pretty much.

Thanks

Quake 4:

I'd recommend reading the section in this article covering System>>>Video Quality.

Generally, the difference between High and Ultra is slight and not worth the resource hit.

FWIW, I ran it on High but with an autoexec overriding some of the settings. Here is a partial list of the autoexec settings i used:

seta r_displayRefresh "85"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "256"
seta image_cacheMinK "3072"
seta r_multiSamples "8"
seta image_anisotropy "4"

The specs of the machine I ran it on are here.

It was only a few years ago that getting a computer with 512MB of RAM was pretty extravagant....
