Video Oddity

I have my monitor set at it's native resolution, the latest ATI drivers for my Radeon R4600, and yet, the on screen print looks weird. The lower case 'L' and the lower case 'I' have a red line next to them. I am running Server 2008 R2 and have tried poking around in all the video settings I could find, but still the stupid red lines.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I have clear type turned on. Could that be the cause?

Well, it uses subpixel rendering to smooth fonts could maybe cause something like that though it's usually very subtle.

Under the "desktops & displays" menu in the Catalyst Control Center, click the down arrow next to the display in question at the bottom of the screen and choose "configure". The far-right tab is called "Pixel Format". Make sure is is in the correct mode for your display. This plus ClearType can mess with that stuff.

ClearType can be set in such a way as to make things less clear rather than the other way around.

Cleartype is a MSFT thing, should be in the control panel.

It's under Display Properties, Appeannce, Effects in XP or Vista.

It puts a dark shadow under text on the desktop and I find that helpful.
