When setting up a virtual OS in VMWare Server, the recommended memory is far less than you would normaly have installed for that OS.
Does using this recommended memory cause problems?

Thanks

It's kind of a difference between want and need. You're trying to balance the needs of the host OS vs. the needs of the guest. Remember that both Server 2003 and Linux run pretty well on 384 or 512MB when you aren't screwing around with a bunch of GUI stuff.

Nope. Most of the time it pages out bits that don't need actual RAM. It also only uses certain bits of RAM once across multiple VMs. I do go fairly crazy with my memory allocation (my current VM servers all have 12GB), but it really isn't necessary.
