Hello, been a lurker since 1996 (storagereview yet), posted once or twice.
Would you please recommend a version of Linux for someone who has experience only with Windows?
I use Word, MS Publisher, Excel, some photo editing and some VHS to VCD video conversion.
Hoping for a parallel Linux/FreeWare desktop if that's possible
thanks

I'd probably choose KDE for a first-timer with a decent machine. I'm a minimalist myself, but it's pretty windows-ish IMO.

Thank you all for the replies, will research your suggestions.
I was in the wife's province for the annual "All Saint's Day" observances.
First time I've heard of Linspire, will surely check it out. But having two votes for KDE must mean a lot.
Open Office will be there for sure, Tannin. BTW, this is "Crispulo" under a different nick.

KDE is a Linux GUI. There are many varieties of Linux that use it. You might want to hit distrowatch.org to find out more.
