Would you guys consider the X700 as better than a 6600GT?

Who cares? They're both reasonable products from competent manufacturers with mostly adequate drivers. The 6600GT may have a slight performance edge, but I doubt that you'd notice.

Both Merc and Tannin were once right, but I think they're a little stuck in their ways. :)

I'm returning a (refurbished) Leadtek card that does not want
to work in the primary PCIE slot, and was considering whether I
should try another Nvidia or go back to ATI.

Leadtek stuff is normally very good quality. Unless the X700 is cheaper, I'd go for it again without flinching.

The X700 Pro 128MB costs about 75% what a 6600GT costs. Is a "slight performance edge" worth $40?

Anyway, the fact that I'm stuck in my ways does not change how right I am about nVidia.

Well, the 700XL with 256 mb of vram is pretty impressive. Combined with the 3000+, it flys. Gives my dual Xeons and the 800XL a run for the money.
I kind of wonder if for 250, it isn't the value card, overall.

You make some good points, but I can get either without going over my
set budget for the part.

I have been an ATI user for many years, and with a chance to build a
new box. I've realized I really need a little first hand experience on
the other side of the fence.

Thanks for the insight.
