Why is everyone up so early today?

I left for work at about 5:25 this morning. I'm at work now. The same is happening for me this whole week.

We're having problems with an app (see CPU affinity thread) & I'm working at our downtown office. Much longer commute. Plus, getting in this early I can work on other matters that have been piling up while waiting for this app to be fixed.

Fixing a problem when the app architecture spans 9 servers & 2 firewalls is a pain in the butt.

Ouch! Sometimes I think my job is tough. Then I see what other people do (your case is an excellent example, Fushigi) and decide that I've got it easy.

Here are the network layers:

1. Internet/intranet
2. Firewall
3. 2xMS ISA servers
4. Firewall
5. 3xMS IIS servers with security agents, 2xsecurity policy servers, 2xpolicy stores (SQL Server)
6. Firewall
7. 3xLDAP (Active Directory).

Sorry, I forgot the LDAP piece...

All servers are W2K SP2 or SP3. Firewalls are Nokia F5s. Security app is Netegrity Siteminder. Redundancy is via load balancing or failover; depending on the layer.

The worst thing is this is happening in our production environment. We're sending daily updates to the CIO & his boss.

Only daily? Your guys must be patient.

I hope it's all in-house. I've worked places where they'll kill a contractor for less.

Daily to our management. Twice daily meetings for the team who's working on it. Twice daily, sometimes more, with the vendor. The bug is now the vendor's top priority as their senior management is pushing for it's resolution.

So, I'm guessing you tested on single-CPU machines, then rolled it out to the big boxes, where it's crashed and burned?

I always loved working on stuff like that. The pressure and release from resolving a deal-breaking problem is one of the things that makes working on computers so damn much fun.

Since Buck told me to keep my comments within this area of the forum, I shall. It is a shame to see people get up early. The hours after 10:00 pm are made for celebration! The hours of morning are made for sleep and recovery. :D Remember, 'if you're sober, when you get up in the morning, that is the best you'll feel day' - Frank Sinatra.

That was yesterday. My question for today is: why isn't anybody up yet?

(Reluctantly, Tea gives up on Storage Forum for the evening. She's already been to Storage Review (nothing), and read all the news on the Reg and the Inq. The Phonicians have taken a sound beating in Age of Empires, twice. TV is never worth watching. Book and bed seem to be the only possibilities. Sigh.)

Age of Empires. Allow the other teams to advance to the last age, and then attack them.

Sorry. I was off teaching.

Now I'm here, and Tea is asleep. Typical. Now I have to wait all day and hope somethnig interesting happens in the next few hours, so I have something to post about.

Sigh.

Now I'm up again. Unfortunately, I have to go to the office. Tannin spent a whole lot of money earlier this week, and now I have to go and help make some of it back. Sometimes life is like that.

Sigh.

Yes. There is nothing true to the phrase: "Free Ride". Someone is always paying for it. But, considering our positions in life, Tea, we can do whatever we please. Tannin and Buck will take care of the rest. :mrgrn:

Three posts, two logouts, two logins - less than two minutes, more likely under a minute and a half. Anyone would think the Ballarat Dynamic Duo had broadband. :)

We do have broadband, but we could do that on dial-up, no problem. Tea and I have seperate browsers, you see. Me being the senior party, I get first choice, which is why I'm posting this in Opera and it's set to log me in automaticaly. (Hmm ... pity it doesn't spell me automatical .... er .. do I need another "l" there? ... y. How about "automaticly"? Nope. "Automaticlly?" No way! I give up. And it's no use asking Tea to help. Her spelling, I am reliably informed, is "legendary" - "Xenophiba" with a "z" no less!) Not being allowed to use my Opera, Tea uses IE 5.0, which she gets grumpy about, but it can't be helped. And all the other various friends and relations have to fight it out over Mozilla and log in manually every time. So it was just a quick couple of window switches, I'm afraid.

There's no magic there Time. Ask Tony how I stole him the 10000th post of this forum and you'll see that you can do a lot better than three posts under two minutes (how about, three posts in under three seconds?).

Wait I'm trying to remember who got the 1000th post in the apology to china thread. I think Tannin was trying for it, but he failed IIRC.
