Windows 7 greener than WinXP for desktops

Contrarily to laptops, which several tests have shown to last longer on battery under WinXP than Vista or even Win7, it is apparently the reverse for desktops. That surprised me a little, given that there are more process running in the background on the newer Microsoft OS than its venerable ancestor.

I don't know how independant the study is and I have not taken the time to compare both operating systems for their power efficiency myself. If I do, I'll try to include a Linux distribution too on at least three different platforms.

It wouldn't surprise me. If nothing else, power saving modes are enabled by default in 7 that are not in XP.
