I almost posted this about an hour before you did. I think it's pretty official this time. Dell IS going to sell AMD.

The reason why I didn't post it afterall was that I doubt anyone here will buy a Dell server anyway.

Especially a 4 socket server. I think so far Dell only plans to use them in their 4-way servers.

Despite Core 2's strengths, Opteron will almost certainly still beat Intel's new chips in the 4-socket arena.

Just took a look at some Dell dual Xeon, RAID 1 workstation boxes that some equipment manufacturer drug in here. These, I would think, should be top of the line computers.

BUT....they match my "junk parts" post perfectly.

Dell's rackmount servers are fine. After the fire Dell preemtively replaced all our motherboards.

Yes, it seems the 2650 series had a penchant for shooting flames. I'm not sure if it was the hydrogen leaking from the caps or what.

Wow, that's almost as good as Quantum's wonderfully ironically named Fireball hard drives.

At least they replaced the boards pre-emptively. It'd be a shame to throw out a whole rack because you couldn't get the burnt plastic smell out... And you usually can't...
